long crank time random

my 07 is almost at 115k miles. only work since i have owned truck for a little over a year now has been an oil cooler/coolant flush with new stand pipes and oilchanges every 5k. Every once in awhile i get a long crank before it fires up. This will happen in the morning, in the afternoon after being parked all day or sometimes after 45mins of city driving. again random and i may not experience it again for several days. I had the long crank this morning and will pay attention if it happens this afternoon. I will also park backwards in our driveway that has a slight incline with the nose down for the rest of the week to see if i can recreate the long crank. otherwise it usually it fires right up hot or cold.

I have a SGII, what would you guys like me to report back? the FICM has never dropped below 47.5, and typically is 48-48.5.

these long cranks are probably 30+seconds which might be with in the normal range

No, 30 second cranks are not normal. We will need more readings from your scan gauge. Pay extra attention to what your hpop is doing.

IPR, ICP and ICPV when cranking should do it. Parking nose down may solve your issue.... bad HPOP seal maybe.

IPR could be up to 77%
ICP needs to be more than 500
ICPV should be more than 1.0v

so i can never get my truck to reach 4000 on the ICP unsure if that is normal or not.

also on monday afternoon after i had driven across town and parked the truck. roughly 15mins later i had to move the truck and it took several starts before finally fired up. i would crank for what seems like a good 20+ seconds.I stopped and then tried again and the same thing. finally on the 3rd crank it fired up. this was on level ground.

couldnt get numbers due to my SCII not displaying until the engine was fired up. So given these symptoms I will be making a call into the dealer as the truck is still under warranty. Would be nice to have this fixed and obviously covered.

the oil cooler and stc fittings have already been replaced. what else should i ask them to handle while they are that far into it?

Next time hit the power button on the SGII first, allow it to turn on to the display, then crank. I've used this procedure in the field for a random no start. When the oil was above 190 it wouldn't start. Once it got down to 180s it would fire right off like nothing was ever wrong. I was able to see this on the SGII, when 190+ it would barely build 300psi. In that case it was a bad STC fitting which I verified with an airtest later.
Yours could be dummy plugs as mentioned. Are you sure the STC has been changed?

Saw this on a 2007 F350 I worked on. Customer called in that he was having hard starts and it would take a serious amount of cranking to get the truck to start hot or cold. I told him to bring it to me, he kept driving it.

He calls me later that evening and it absolutely will not start now. While monitoring ICP cranking, it would build 200, 300, 400 (something) psi and ALMOST start, but then fall on it's face. After confirming with Mchan68, I replaced the dummy plugs and standpipes on both sides and after some cranking, it fired right up.

The STC fitting as I've seen several times, won't let the pressure rise much above 100 psi and sometimes won't even restart cold.
