Rubber fuel lines - try and get the fuel injected lines - they'll hold up better than the regular lines. A bit pricey, though.

That's what I meant - the reinforced ones.

So that has solved it for now. But the fuel looks cloudy. The tank was bone dry when I got the truck. It had sat for 5+ years so I guess there is some rust in there. My gas gauge isn't registering and I've narrowed the problem down to the sending unit so now I have one more reason to drop the tank. I'll get to that eventually but for now I will just pick up some spare filters.

I know most of you guys are "visual learners"

so here are some pictures ...

This shows the new hose that connects the hard line to the carb - with the crappy pinch type clamp. It also shows the remains of the hose to the deleted smog pump. Like the P/Os solution to plugging it?
