Texas has emission testing only in specific counties such as Harris (Houston), Travis (Austin), Bexar (San Antonio) and Dallas (Dallas). No emission testing in my county- safety items only.
Which is nice especially if you can register your vehicle in another county to avoid a full emission testing.
Here in Georgia, no emissions check is required unless you're in one of the 13 counties surrounding the city of Atlanta. There, anything over 25 years old (or less than 3 years old) gets checked. For most vehicles it's just a query of the vehicle computer and a gas cap check, I'm not sure what the process is for non-ODBC-II vehicles, but I believe it's a tailpipe sniff check.
Even though my truck is way outside the testing window, I wanted to get a tailpipe sniff done just to see what it's putting out...oddly, no shop will do it. Apparently it has something to do with the state reporting system, they'd have to put my truck into the system and that would cause problems.
