He's probably thinking that you will not gain much by doing it. It is not cheap to purchase the dual fan setup that you will need.
I've also seen that many mechanics are reluctant to install aftermarket items to a system that is working fine. They probably don't want to be bothered troubleshooting the thing if a problem arises.
Be sure and check out the V-10 forum and see what those guys have done.

An electric fan is nice for many reasons, but on a V-10, i dont think it would cool (even a dual setup) as much as the mechanical fan does in hot weather. I dont think the electric fan is dramatically worse- just not a whole lot better, and you can never get enough cooling.
Thats not to say electric fans are not worth it- not at all, especially if you live in a cold climate. In cold weather, they cannot be beat- since the engine warms up much faster and stays warm, since the fan doesnt come on in my pickup until 170 degrees- the engine is nice and hot- produces great heat- and much faster then the stock setup.
In hot weather- esp on a V-10- you best get a mechanical water temp gauge (mine is auto meter #2333) and install it. You might check on getting an electric fan clutch- which allows you to use your stock mechanical fan- but eliminates that (worthless to me) viscous coupled fan clutch, which i have yet to see one that really works correctly. Yes, i have a flex a lite black majic on my Jeep Wrangler- and i highly recommend it. Mine is a 4 cyl Wrangler with the 6 cyl steel radiator- and i never have trouble overheating on this setup even in the hottest weather with my 160 stat it still never runs over 175 water temp- and with the electric fan you get great heat in the winter, (since the fan doesnt come on until the engine is fully warmed up) along with better power, better gas mileage- and makes your Jeep much easier to work on, too. I had one on my truck for a little while but the way it mounted put a couple holes in the radiator. It had 4 zip tie kind of things that you run through the tubes to hold the fan tight against the radiator and they separated the fins from the tubes. I'm not trying to put down electric fans, I am planning to put one back on my truck. I just wanted to let you know of a possible problem with them.

I ended up using the qip tie system. I just put on 3 extra ties for each fan. Its not the zip ties themselves that are bad, but when they are loose they will move around and act like saws. Putting on the extra ties really tightened it up and it should be OK that way. I'll let everyone know as time goes by if I have any issues with the setup.

My tests reveal: It is cheaper and works better...
I am from Florida, and I successfully replaced the fan clutch assembly with an electric fan on my '92 explorer when my clutch failed and inspection revealed stress fractures on the blade. I used the 16" fan available from AutoZone ($69) and a $4 relay to operate it when the compressor clutch is activated. Never a problem yet and it has been 1.5 years. Side note: it increased my gas mileage from 18 to 22 mpg on the highway.

Hi folks, This is my first post but I too have experimented with an electric fan and although I appreciated the extra power I had to go back to the factory CF assembly. Every time I stopped at a red light the A/C kicked in and out, had a big impact on my idle. Also I didn't like the idea of the zip ties, weary of the "saw problems" a couple lof you mentioned.
Anyone know where to get a strong hard mounting fan or tried to put two on (push and pull)?

That information may be hard to find since only a engineer that was designing the radiator for the motor would know how much CFM was needed. Most shops are not going to be checking for CFM. You also do not need that amount of airflow all the time for a number of reasons. I know my 5.4 can sit there idling a long time before the fans kick on and then it's only for a 10-15 second squirt.

mine's on the way
I have a 4600cfm dual fan setup coming in the big brown truck this week. It will be going on a '72 390. This flex a lite advertises up to 18 hp and 2-3 mpg increases. If my computations are correct it will pay for itself in approx 2000 miles of driving if I get just a 1 mpg increase. (10mpg @ $2.20/gal=.22/mile). .22 X 2000+ approx cost of fan. this sounds too good to be true, doesn't it?

Your right, sounds too good to be true because it is....if you were getting 10mpg and you calculate the miles it would take to get back $440 with a one mile per gallon increase at $2.20 per gallon, it would take you 20,000 miles not 2000.
