Anybody got the Xenon Flares? I've decided to go with them for my truck but there's one thing...What's the difference between the regular 1.3 wide flares and the Excursion style 1.3 wide flares???
I think the ones I have someone called the Excursion style before. All I know is they are called Sport Flares. And yes thay can be a pain. Will need an extra pair of hands.
The set I installed on my 99 350 took forever and two men. They use double sided tape and the flairs didn't form fit very well. I had to hold them in place for a long time till they would stick it was a lot of work. I had to go out and get more tape because it was had not to mess up the tape they sent. It's two years now and the flairs have slipped down to a point where I can see the tape (Gray) it's starting to look like **** I am thinking about replacing them. Plus I have 315/16s on my truck and the flairs should be wider. I think they were 2.5" Next time I will use aleast 3 or 4" flairs. If this is the experience that others have had than I would NOT use them again. I would find something that form fits better or rivets in. Good luck.
Wow, maybe these aren't for me...can anyone else chime in. What about Bushwacker or Warn 4x Flares...or any other brands that fit well and go on more easily...
look at my pictures in my last gallery for a picture of the sport flares(not the excursion style). They go all the way to the back of the front fender(against the door). The excursion style are just like a normal style flare and don't go back the front fender that far. I had problems with the guy that painted mine and the guy that put them on, but since then i put them back on myself and i'm happy with them. They are a pain to put on but match nice when they are on properally.
I put the Warn flares on my truck. I forget what style they are, but they add about 2" of extra coverage. I have 12.5" wide tires on wheels with 4" back spacing. The flares cover the tires perfectly.
I did the install myself, it wan't too difficult. It took four screws per flare, and 3M trim tape. I discarded the supplied screws and purchased stainless screws with stainless finishing washers - looks far more professional.
I used a bucket full of spring clamps to help hold the flare in place while I was test fitting things. Get the clamps, at least six. Their like a second set of hands.
Make sure the surfaces where the tape adheres is clean - use alcohol and a clean cloth to wipe the area of the fender and the flare.
I've had to remount one of the flares, but that was almost two years ago - and since then, no problems. It was the tape that let go, sometimes that happens I guess.
Whatever you do, do not get the flares that use the rubber welting between the flare and the fender. These will eat right through the paint. I've seen it first hand. The tape will seal out any dirt and prevents the flare from grinding against the fender.
And for style points I had my flares painted silver to match my blue over silver two-tone paint job. Looks sharp.

I have warn 4x flare, local 4x4 shop said they were the best fitting brand he put on. I had no trouble, And they fit and look good. 4" lift &35" bfg's on 9.75" wheels they cover nicely. 2002 sd forgot to say.
the 4x flares look good. I think I would have checked them out before I got my xenon if I could do it again. The guy that put mine on originally said that they were the hardest flares he's ever put on.
