I am slowly gathering parts to do my zf swap. My ole e4od is still kicking it but it's gonna go out soon. I found on Craigslist a core but I don't know what to look for. I plan to rebuild it but in the pictures I don't know if anything is missing. Like I said I don't know what to look for if someone could relay some more info to ask for that would be great. His price is 400$ obo I'll hope to see if I can get it for 300 or so. Seems like a fair deal. What do y'all think?
Also it says from power stroke but on the tag I couldn't see what it says. Can anyone tell if it will work on my 91?
You can get them even cheaper if you have a Pic N Pull type wrecking yard in your area.
You just want to be careful when researching, when you find those threads that price used ZFs @ $1,200 or better, look at the thread date, it'll be pretty old. The price has come down substantially in recent years as these trucks are getting old and retired and availability has increased.
Back to that ad, the tag shows a manufacture date of '93, so not likely out of a Power Stroke. But I understand the first gen PS ZFs to be the same as the IDIs.
To me anyway, those transmission's he selling have a value of $100-$150 each since he's admitting they need rebuilt.

I check my pick n pull pretty frequently and haven't found a diesel zf yet. I would rather get it there because it would be 150. I would throw 150 offer at him but that's a way low ball. Guess it couldn't hurt lol
i agree on the $150 max price for the 4X4 trans. build date of 12-08-93, that is a S-42 trans. with the higher rearing in first and reverse, that is not a good trans for towing. you would be better off looking for a S-47 trans which was used after 96
