Been looking around online and can't seem to find an answer from what other people have asked, so I went ahead and joined so I can ask the question myself.
I have a 1992 f150 with a 5.0, 2wd. It has already been converted over to r134. I bought the truck from a friend who let it sit for a year due to a transmission issue. When he was driving it before it broke down it did have working air. The system has always been sealed (not unhooked anywhere)
I am trying to get the air to work. The compressor isn't coming on. I can spin the clutch by hand so I thought it was just a low charge. Bought me a can of ac pro and put a charge on the system which it already seemed to have. So I pulled the fuse, It was good but I went ahead and replaced it anyway. Got my light tester out and I'm not getting power to the compressor still. I pulled the plug on the low side switch and jumped it with my light tester. I have power there but still the clutch didn't engage to turn on the compressor.
Where should I go next and does anyone have a diagram for the system?
jump low side switch with paperclip and see if it works, there is also a switch in the high side line that could be bad that can be jumpered for testing.
you need to pull a vacuum before the refrigerant gets put in. just trying to put the refrigerant in like the can says to do is a waste of time.
without the proper tools, those cans are AC killers, not fixers.
So just as an update I jumper 12v power right to the compressor and got it to run. plugged it all back in and now it turns it's self on and off, can anyone explain this?
It is cycling off the pressure switch at about 24psi.
The compressor clutch will not last long with it doing that.
Most of the time that would mean a low charge.
What does the gauge say with the engine not running for a while?
