What's it for??

There is a long slot and what looks to be a drink holder on both the driver's door and front passenger door of the '03 Expedition. Since there are other cup holders placed more conveniently, I am convinced that they are for something else. My wife thinks they are cup holders using aavailable space with no thought to convenience..

Does anyone know what they are for?

Maybe they are map pockets with a spot for your pens and pen light and other junk that usually goes flopping about.

You're over thinking the whole thing...

-extra cup holders- So Ford can say," Well, we have 47 cup holders versus GMs 10 cup holders..."

Cup holders, and the slot is most likely for handles from a coffee mug.

Yep, The dealer I bought mine from even made a point to tell me "you have these nice cupholders in the door capable of holding a 20oz drink" What are they good for--Kicking when you get in & out which scuffs them and coats them in dirt.
