2000 Ex Rear window shattered

I havent been on here in a while but has anyone had any experience with replacing their rear window? I just shattered mine today. The damn mower kicked up a rock and boom! So I'm trying to find the best pricing option and have it replaced correctly. I talked to a local glass guy today and he said there is a mounting frame the glass attaches to then gets bolted to the rear tailgate and I looked and he seems to be right. I got an online quote from safelite and they quoted me $330 to replace the window. The local glass guy said that was a great price only if they were replacing that gasket too. He said removing that gasket from the broken glass is a pain in the *** and it can get damaged when replacing the window.

I'm just looking for any thoughts on this. Other than ordering it from ford $500 or a junk yard $?, I dont know how much I'm going to spend on this. I think I can replace it by myself if I can find a complete window with frame but I dont think anyone has this unless its directly from ford or a junk yard. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!

I got mine from Safelite when mine shattered on vacation. My deductible was $100. It did take a couple of guys to do this and didn't look like something I would want to try by myself.

I paid 250$ for mine installed. Binswarner I think did it. There may have been an extra fee for installing at my location.

Thanks for the help. I have to check with insurance company I was pretty sure I got insurance for "acts of god" like if I hit a deer, and the deductible was 50 or 100$. Some nit wit said I had a 500$ deductible. So we will see today when I contact them again.

Thanks

Isn't all glass covered under comprehensive? I know the windshield is for sure, I spend $100 every few months to get a new one due to all the construction debris around here.

I source a lot of hard to find parts from CABT, but since that's a section that they use for the conversions I don't know how they deal with parting that section out.

Unfortunately, that is a side quarter glass, not the rear hatch glass that the OP needs.

Here is an Excellent thread by @Nicmike that goes into great detail about the rear hatch glass and it's mounting systems.

Not in Mn its optional coverage. I don't carry it because insurance can be a large expense,
i have $1000.00 deductible on all my Fords.

Ugh, that really sucks. I have a $500 collision and $100 comprehensive, the latter of which includes glass in Texas. It included glass in Washington state as well, although again - that may just be windshield. For me, at least, the $12/mo saved by switching to $1000 deductible isn't worth the cost of having to spend an extra $500 should something happen. In Houston, it's not a matter of 'if' but 'when' Tack on an extra $4500 of accessory coverage for wheels, tires, stereo, and brush guard (in case of theft, again - Houston) and I pay $124.xx/mo with a few tickets. Texas also requires $50,000 minimum personal injury or something like that, so that's where a large spike comes from.

Marks Mobileglass did mine 4 years ago, $350 was what I paid. With that said, being in the service I knowthe DOD uses Excursions and asked if there was an option for the rearglass. Turns out there is a different part# for a DOD Excursion. Don’t recall whatit was, they said the glass was a little thicker and had a darker tint then theOEM glass. So you may ask and see whatsafelight says about it, kind of curious to see. Before I limo tinted it, it was darker afterthe install.

Yes, but if insuring with a mutual (Nationwide, AMICA or others) we receive a dividend check for no claims each year.

The windshield is less than the dividend, it's always less expensive to 'self-insure'.

I've had mine replaced 2x in the last 6 month's (both stupid tax - once me and once my daughter)....anyhow, the first time I had a local glass shop do it and they charged me $384 and did a crummy job (did not even vacuum out the glass shards from the trunk). This last time a few weeks ago I had Safelite do it and they charged $280 and did a quicker/better job
