Fuel injector question.

I have an 1988 f250 7.5 (460) A couple of the fuel injectors look burnt/melted. I think a small engine fire from the previous owner??? Not bad but a little melted. They still work fine. I didn't even notice it until I am taking the engine apart.

Now the question. Are fuel injectors relatively universal?? Or are they very specific?? I have a set from a late 80s Ford 3.8 V6. Would they be the same or completely different?? Same style/ same plug. Mine are black and if I remember correctly I think they are kind of yellow. Not sure if they have different flow ratings. ????

BTW thanks on the fuel injector cleaning sticky. Never knew they had rebuild kits.

Well there are little numbers on those guys. My truck takes a E7TE-B1B and the ones I got on the shelf are a E7DE-B1B. From crossing them it does not look like a match.

They technically interchange, as in physically possible to install, but they are not the same flow. You have blue 24# injectors, and that's what you need to find for replacements. Yellow is 19#.

Thanks for the info that was what I was guessing... But going from memory I was wrong both of them ARE light blue, the ones in the truck and the ones I had on the shelf.

The part numbers are different though... Do the part numbers need to match or do they just go by the colors???

Thanks for the info.

BTW I crossed them both to GP Sorenson aftermarket fuel injectors. They crossed to different GP numbers so I was guessing they were different.

The V6 injectors are a greyish blue, and should be 14 lb injectors. Way too small for the 460. The correct 24 lb injectors are readily available on ebay.

Thanks for the info guys... The rebuild parts are $20 plus... digging up a few even old ones will add to it. I just bought a set off the bay.
