I replaced the instrument cluster in my 89 2.3 ranger with a factory cluster with a tachometer. The cluster came out of the same year ranger with what I think was an original 2.3 engine, engine sitting in the compartment was a 4 banger. The tach responds really slow and at idle registers right at the zero line, even I can tell it's turning more rpm than 0 at that point.
There appears to be a card similar to a NIC card for a laptop computer. It's on the backside, on the tach side and slides into the cluster. Anybody know what this card does?
Is there an adjustment for a 4,6 and 8 engine on the tach? If so, where are they located? Does the tach have to be removed from the cluster to make adjustments or can it be done without remove it they exist?
Great forum and Thanks in Advance for any replies.....
I dont know what the tach problem is but the card you are referring to is the slosh module for the fuel guage. It is used to prevent rapid fluctuation of the fuel guage on turns and such when the fuel sloshes around in the fuel tank.
