1996 F150 axle code
I'm looking at a 1996 F150 302 automatic . Does anyone know if I can get the axle code from the VIN?? What axle ratios were available???? I forgot to check when I looked at the truck. It's an Eddie Bauer with 64,000 miles and looks and drives great.

No indication in the VIN, but there is code on the door "data plate". However I don't know anyone outside the dealership that can decode that. I'm sure people can though.
Easiest to get under the rear bumper and see what it says on the tag, 3.08 or 3.55, whatever.
Might not be easy to convince the seller to stick his head under there for you if you can't do it yourself though.

I would probably go with the 300 or the 351 over the 302 if you are hauling..
