I was under my Bronco last weekend putting a Lock-right in the front diff and looking at the linkage. I intend to do it this weekend. It does not look like it will be that difficult. There is one shaft towards the front, and another about 10-12 inches back. I am thinking the front one is for 2-4, and the rear is for L-H. I just glanced at it really though while under there, so I don't really have a good idea. I will let you know what I do, and try and post pictures. About 5 yrs ago I twin sticked my 203 in my old 76 Blazer out of necessity. The shifter got stuck in 2H, and quit working, so I took it off. There was one shaft inside another on that case, with one steel tab on each shaft. Just welded some levers on the tabs and was set.
I need to post some new pics anyway. The top is gone, got some dents, rear bumper gone, patch panels added. Looks tough now!
There is only one shift lever on a NP208 case similar to auto trans shifter. NP205 has 2 shifters on case so it is easy to convert. 208 would require major modifications.
ecarter50 is correct. The front shaft is just a pivot point for the shifter lever that comes through the floor. Disassembly of the transfer case would be a must to obtain 2lo if it is possible at all to modify the shifting mechansim inside which I doubt and don't intend to find out anytime soon unless it fails. I did have a 74 Jeep CJ5 about ten years ago that someone had modified such that the transfer case shifter handle came back one position farther and engaged 2lo. I think there was a fairly simple way to modify those transfer cases to do that.
