What did the close ratio zf come in that would be a better transmission for me if I can find a close ratio one I thought they were all the same and heard that they shifted like a dump truck that's why I was not considering on swapping one in but if there is a close ratio one I probably will.

I'm pretty sure the close ratio ZF5 was only available behind Diesels, not the gas trucks?

He's right, the close ratio would be exceptional....but lead is also right, it's a diesel box. Parts are directly interchangeable though, something I'm looking to do myself...buy diesel zf close box, swap innards, sell diesel bell.

That's a good idea I might try that as well. get the extra strength of a zf. And the gear ratio of an m5od it's a win win in my book.

Yes that'd be win win, just not easy to find two zfs at once, also for a good price. Keep your eyes peeled during part collection and build phase.

True, but if he could find a diesel zf with a busted bell or something it may be cheaper. Dunno just a thought. Then again a stroker with the torque he should be making with that build should also have enough power to leave decently in second.

And I also plan on re gearing to 4:56 gears at the least I imagine it will move pretty good with thoughs gears

Leaving in 2nd isn't an issue even stock, it's the huge rpm drop between shifts with the wide ratio trans that is just a lame setup. 1st is unusable for accel, and rpm drop is gigantic from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th.

Def a good idea to look for a diesel trans that has a busted case.

I took a look on the local craigslist and not much but this junk yard I found my engine in has several trucks from this generation so I'll ask them what they have when i go pick my engine up from them next week I'm in no hurry for transmission though I need a good running engine first but I'll keep my eyes open if a good deal comes by I'll probably take it

Yep, you got the idea.....parts collection can take a long time but you have to be ready to pull the trigger when something does come up. If it's easy it's not cheap, if it's cheap it's not easy.....being patient and diligent in the search is not easy, but cracking a catalog and ordering a t56 is awfully expensive.

Picked this up this morning it came out of an 89 f250 she don't look like much but it's a start now I need to tear it down and see what she looks like on the inside gave 200+ 100 for core charge that's half of what every body else was wanting to ship me one

Sweet motor! You're doing what I'm planning on doing. My 94 has MAF on the 302. I've got 33x12.50s with 3.31 gearing which is killing my mileage. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread and will happily give advice if I have any.

If you pick up a lifter tree for hydraulic roller lifters, the machine shop can retrofit that to the block to male it a cheap roller.conversion.

Whats the advantage of running roller rockers over the flat tappets and I did a little reading if I do this convertion I'll only be able to use Circle base cams and what is a Circle Base Cam
