Custom headliner for bronco canopy?
I wanted to see if any others had done this and if so what they had done, pitfalls, things they would do differently, things that worked well, etc. There aren’t many places for hold downs and I would like to avoid drilling into the top if possible.
Thanks!
After that, get new headliner material for both the front and canopy so that it matches and glue it to the new backboard.
I was thinking 3M auto double-sided auto tape to stick it to the top. As far as the finishing details, I was thinking of putting just a ribbon or thicker piece of material around the headliner to give it that finished look. I was also thinking about going all the way down the sides as well (around the windows).
Again, this is only a planning stage and item 29 of things I want to do to the Bronco so it will be some time before I get time and money to start this project. I'll be interested to see what other people have done.
If you want to put a headliner in the stock top, you might get lucky enough to find one in a junk yard. I think most xlt and Eddie Bauer broncos came stock with a headliner back there. I know I found a headliner from an xlt at a yard, but I had to take off the old material and put on the new stuff (so it was the correct color). The backing board was in great shape though!
Edit: On my 96, I believe the places that hold it down are the seatbelt mounts, the front trim panel between the cab and top, and there should be two hanger clips as well. So you shouldn't have to do any drilling or modification to put in a stock headliner for your Bronco. Mine didn't come with one from factory but a factory one just plopped right in.

One idea I had for a backboard was taking a thin sheet of ABS and heat forming it too the top with a heat gun.
The problem I am trying to sort out is two fold:
-Can I build it light enough to stay up without putting a bunch of screws in it (hopefully just using spray adhesive, double stick tape, weather stripping sealant, etc.)? To add to this, this truck sees some really terrible roads when I go fishing, hunting, and camping.
-Make it not look like junk. If it doesn’t have a good transition to the fiberglass part of the top or it’s going to look terrible.

Interesting, I need to dig up some info on these OEM headliners. Do you have any pictures of this OEM headliner and the mounting points (other than the seatbelt and clothes hangers)?
Taking a look at the OEM setup would be really helpful!
thanks!
Hope this helps. Mine really needs to be recovered.

Those are some great pictures! Thank you, that should do what I need, now I need to try and find one!
Thanks again!
