T-case going bad?
I took the Bronco out for a drive today, and on the highway I got a real bad vibration after about 20 min of driving and a grinding noise. It would come and go, as if something was catching and then noth catching again. It didn't change with engine speed or tranny gear, and I could feel it when I put my hand on the T-case shifter, and any slight movement of the shifter made the grinding noise worse. I didn't move it enough to come close to shifting out of 2Hi, and I don't want to attempt putting it in 4wd and locking the hubs for fear of blowing it completely and not being able to drive. Also, when I came to a complete stop each time the truck seemed like it was slamming into gear, and it would bang and lurch forward. I've had the dreaded drivetrain clunk as long as I've owned it, since Oct. 2000, and it was mentioned to me that it might be play in the T-case. How much would a rebuild, a used T-case, or a new T-case cost? I'm pretty sure I have a B-W 1356. Thanks.

Yes, you have an electronically-shifted BW-1356. You should be able to find them used in good shape for $250-400. I have no idea about a new one, if they're even available. Call your Ford dealer. Any transmission shop should be able to get you a price on a reman.
