Getting better parking brakes?
Hey guys, I've heard that these super duties have "anemic" parking brakes, and it's starting to bug me. After having to get a tranny rebuilt on my 86' Bronco II (E4OD) and it coming in at a steep cost, I figure why not save mine in any way possible. Yes, I am a teenager who always uses their parking brake in a day and age where mechanics drive my truck into the shop not knowing I have it on . My problem is that when I put my parking brake on and take my foot off the brake, I hear it rolling back on what I believe is the transmission. I was wondering if there's any way to "upgrade" the parking brakes?

I've had a 99, 04, and now a 15. The parking brake has done just fine on all of them, even with a heavy load. The best bit of advice I can give is set the parking brake while in neutral and then put the truck in park. If there is an issue, inspect your parking brake and move forward from there.
On another note, I would start thinking about a rainy day fund before you start replacing parts just because. I don't mean this in a negative way, I was once a teenager (and even into my 20's) who threw money at trucks just because I wanted to avoid a specific scenario. Then when the big one hit, I was sol. Just a bit of advice from a guy twice your age who has been in the same mindset.

Parking brake is a small drum inside the disc rear rotors to access you need to pull the axles. I replaced everything but the rotors and it still doesn't hold. I can some how pass the vehicle inspection. I adjusted them all the way out and then just gave up. it feels and looks good but it just don't work. So I don't use it.

the transmission "Park" is designed to Hold the truck with a load... and can not be damaged unless you put it into park while the truck is still moving....
or replace the whole rear end to a 2011 and up unit..
I am 63,,, retired,, and an auto mechanic... 43 years.
Save you money. for a REAL issue with the truck.
my opinion.
fyi, I started wrenching on cars/trucks when I was 13, bicycles at 7, (yes I owned my own car at 13) ........
