New Coil
It didn't. It got about the same distance and sputtered out. This time It sputtered for about two miles before it left me sit.
I had some gas to pour down the carb, as that usually gets me back on the road. It didn't work this time.
I decided to start messing with the ignition, since I don't think a tank blockage is the culprit anymore. Seems like a temperature related failure...
Anyway, I bought a new coil. My question is this:
The box the coil came in said I have to use an external resistor. How do I check If I have one? And the old coil had a plastic cap that housed the connections. The old coil's posts looked like the tops of nails, and this cap kinda clipped on to them. The new coil had threaded posts and there was no way it was gonna go in that cap. So I removed the cap and just Wound the wires to the threads and screwed down the bolts. Is there anything more to that cap? The new coil is bigger. Is that a problem? Or is a coil is a coil is a coil...?
Thanks guys!
Anyway, I still had to pour gas in the carb to get started, but it did run well on the way home. So at worst, the $20 coil cost less than a tow!
if you let the engine cool for awhile, it will start, and allow you to run until it again heats up... :-) annoying... i always keep a spare module, coil and solenoid with me... heheh
dont worry about the terminals, and the resistor is in the primary wiring circuit, built into the wiring under the dash. worry not about that one either. it just limits the amount of primary voltage fed to the coil, so that it doesnt send out too much voltage through your plug wires.
