i rebuilt a 360 and put it in my '76 f150. after about 1500 miles it seems to have a miss. at idle i can't tell at all, but when i get to mid (2500?) rpm range i can hear a miss. plugs, wires, rotor, dist. cap, carb rebuilt, are all new. timing's on. anything else that i'm overlooking? anything else in the ignition system that could cause this? (brain box?) i'm going to do a compression test again tomorrow just to be positive it's no valves or anything, but what else could cause this? is there a way the carb could be doing this?
thanks
get a tachometer and see exactly where you notice it. does it go away as you rev it higher????
does it do it in gear while driving or just when the engine is in park or neutral and your reving it?
first thing i'd check would be your timing curve.........not the intitial timing but the entire curve, if thats to much or to little it could cause a miss. you can also tell some about what the problem is by seeing if it does it only under a load ( while driving ) or if it's just when in park or both.
yes the carburetor can cause this, usually it would be a mixture screw adjustment......
anyway, i'd check the timing curve and the carb adjustment first, after that what to do next would depend on again what rpm range it's doing it in and under what conditions.
i'm also assuming if it's rebuilt that includes the timing chain too...........it's also possible if it didnt do this after you first ran the new engine that some retuning may be nessesary due to the fact it's broken in.............
