Hello everyone just wanted to introduce myself as I just bought my first SD 08' f350 72k miles 4x4 and it feels great to be part of this nowledgable community all here to help eachother. I know little about diesel engines but always drove fords from a kid, mostly the 150 tho always dreamed of having a big *** lifted powerstroke on 35" tires as a boy haha
Can all of you give me a helpfully crash coarse of what not to dos!!!! Of course don't use gas but I mean other preventative measures and things to help me. I am reading up as much threads as possible i would like to know things I have missed
Oil filter every 5k, fuel filters every 10k , and drain the water separator at least once every month. A good fuel treatment is a great idea. I use diesel clean in the silver bottle and if it's cold I'll run the winter bottle some. You can grab it at Walmart.
You can go to a ford dealership and ask for an oasis report. They may or may not give it to you but it'll have anything that been done at a dealership on it.

Other than that welcome to the forums!
Drain water fuel separator valve driver side frame once a month correct? For how long do I release valve before closing?
For the separator I just do mine for a few minutes until it kinda slows down so I'll know for sure I got it drained good. You need to drain it at least once a month. Preferably every other week or weekly. I do mine every Saturday cause I'm off work and have nothing better to do lol. Its very important to keep it drained. And yes that's the trailer braking system. Mine doesn't turn on unless I touch it and if the trailer is disconnected it just tells me that the trailer is disconnected. Either way you don't have to worry about it. My friends tend to play with mine for some reason when they get in my truck lol.
CAn someocne give me advice I'm draining my diesel fuel separator valve and it's not a full stream flow more like a super fast drip! Is this bad for me. Should it be a constant flow? Or what can I do to get it to flow properly
I have the opposite problem lol. Mine has fuel coming from everywhere when I open the lever. Not going to hijack, my issues are in my own thread. Sounds like the previous owner neglected it some. It should definitely be a good flow. I know they can be clogged and have to be rebuilt. It may not be that the previous owner neglected it but that's what I've read. I've also heard that they can be rebuilt (cleaned basically) fairly cheap.
Hopefully somebody that has had a clogged one will chime in and explain it better than me.
Sorry for a double post. Just got some feedback from my thread. (Gasket replacement). But the info that works for you is that he said that its good to clean it periodically just to get any crap out. Maybe the clog isn't super bad. Definitely neglect in my opinion since the separator is clogged it won't be able to work properly. But you should be able to go to ford and grab the gasket kit and just clean it out. Simple job.

Thanks bud so they have a kit I'm guessing I take apart the valve housing?
I don't think it's necessarily a kit. More like fresh gaskets and what not. But yeah I'm guessing that you would just take the cover off of the drain. I'm going to do mine next weekend and that's how I plan on doing it
