So I have my transmission (4 speed) out of my F3 because of a ring gear issue I mentioned in a previous post. I have been killing time cleaning everything up and I noticed that there is some evidence of a rubber mount where the transmission lands on the crossmember. I have been looking around but I have not been able to find anything on the usual sites (Macs, Lmc) is this part available?
I seem to find the speed parts everywhere but not many 4 speed. Not sure what to do if I decide to rebuild it.
Wow that's it? Mine had a tiny amount of rubber around the threads but nothing like that. I assumed those were for the big trucks (f6, f7, etc) Thanks for the help!
It is also a spendy part. Seems like a rock hard piece of rubber would work just as well. I assume it is a fairly hard piece of rubber? Anyone know how thick?
That's an interesting item. I am at the same point and was wondering if there was a mount available but I never would have thought it looked quite like that or cost that much. I guess mine was long gone a long time ago, because it only had a trace amount of rubber around the bolts too.
Your only seeing the very top of the rubber, the rest is basically pressed in the cross member and held in by a plate. Here's the side view under the truck:
Here's the small portion sticking out
Keep an eye on eBay, one pops up every so often for 10-20 bucks.
I'll have to look more closely at how mine works. From the photo it looks like you are buying a lot of rubber but only getting a small amount of bearing area advantage
If these are made of the same rubber as the F1 mounts, it's not much different than mounting to steel. The compounds are so stiff you can't press a fingernail into them. I have long wondered if any attempt to match OEM durometers is made, or if it's just some random compound. But you need something there.
