As of 0800 hrs. this morning in am officially joining the ranks of the retired. I have no big plans other than to finish up on some small projects, get the A/C finished in the 51 and change a motor in a 39 ford. I like to keep active and already have people looking to put me to work
Congrats on retirement, you are going to enjoy it, I started my second year 2 days ago..
Congratulations on achieving another milestone in your life. It can surprise you though, in my case it seems as if I have less time to myself now that I'm retired than when I was working. Take a breath and enjoy every moment, each and every one is precious. Think good thoughts as the bad ones are just a waste of time.
Congratulations! I retired a few months ago but am already back to work. One of my clients just won't take no for an answer so I my bid was double thinking he wouldn't take it. Of course he did and now I am kicking myself for all I left on the table in the countless bids before. A couple of more jobs and I will leave the work to the younger ones and actually really retire. Good luck!!
I'd love to retire but that would bring an end to my excuses for not catching up on the 8,000 things on my to-do list.
a false belief for sure... I retired 10 years ago (time still flies by) and my to do list is no shorter than before. I actually found that my list got longer and considered hiring help. but another retiree enlightened me to the reasons. When you're working and have a project, you come home in the evenings and bust your butt to finish it... maybe a couple or three evenings and your done.
When you're retired, you work on it a little and decide to do something else or get called away from your project (nap) so you leave it for tomorrow.Tomorrow brings another project also and you work on it for a while and stop for lunch and never return... as time goes on you have several 1/2 finished projects and you're busier than before you retired. Or at least, that's been my path..
What ever you do... enjoy it.. have fun with it or don't do it. You worked too long and too hard to take on the 'retirement job'. I still work occasionally to build up the truck fund or take a special trip... but my time off is enjoyable... even if it's work.
Another approach... The wife asked her retired husband what he was going to do today... his reply was "Nothing". She said to him "that's what you did all day yesterday !" He simply replied "I didn't finish" That approach works well too.
congratulations,i retired in 1997 after putting in my 30 yrs.i told my wife that for the first year I was going to do nothing, but after that I had to go back to work (I just have to keep busy) so after that I looked around and went to work for an auto parts store making deliveries-I got tired of that so I went to work at a golf course I told them that I only wanted to work Tuesday-Wednesday & Thursday that is all they asked me why & I said that I wanted 4 day weekends ( when you are retired you are the boss & you pick what you want) after a while I left that job too ,I have been working for the shreiff's office for 12 years now and don't plan on leaving for while yet
I am lucky I can make my own hours most of the time but I still go out and sell. Most of my friends are retired and tell me that's what I need to do but I can take off anytime I want as I work from the home. My biggest concern is out living the money so I do not want to take any out of our retirement accounts . I do take Fridays off and it is nice. Plus I still need to build the truck fund.
Thanks to all of you for the well wishes and tips. Tomorrow ( wednesday ) would be the first day that I would be scheduled to work since retiring. So far I'm liking my new lifestyle.
