Need help with wheels/tires offsets vs. spacers... What's the difference?
Bushwacker pocket style fenders were just mounted so now my stock wheels and tires look ridiculous under the truck. Not only are the stock tires too small, but they are wayyyy too narrow looking below the fenders, so need to get them at least even with the fender line if not out a little. I've seen some hub spacers that were up to 3" but not sure if they are all the same or if one is better than another, also what is the difference between going the spacer route vs. wheels with a large amount of offset??

generally speaking the difference is , a wheel mfg is going to engineer a wheel so the the mounting surface or offset ratio to rim width is proportional so that the leverage the wheel excerpts on your hub is similar to the factory spec .wear on bearings and ball joints is minimized and the steering scrub radius is correct.
using a spacer takes a narrow rim and sticks it out farther which increases the leverage on the hub increasing wear on bearings, joints, TRE ect
I'll have pics as soon as finished painting in the shop. Truck is a 2001 7.3l 60k Ex with 2015 conversion, just installed bushwacker pocket flares all around which stick out considerably from the truck. Right now, the truck is unfortunately 2wd with stock rims/tires. Use of the vehicle is just highway and city only, no towing. As soon as I source an 05+ front axle and suspension, I'll be doing the straight axle conversion on the frontend, and then eventually fully convert to 4x4. I'm mostly just looking for something in the meantime. I also have 2014 4x4 coils and shocks that I'll be seeing if I can mount and possibly get a big enough camber bushing kit to be able to get it aligned close enough.
I do agree that offset wheels are probably the best way to go, and also that as far as spacers, hub centric is better (and more expensive), but the majority of spacers are not hubcentric, they are the flat lug centric version. I've also read that steel is better than aluminum, but as long they are billet aluminum and not cast aluminum I hardly see there being a concern about breaking them. I really question the truth behind any of this or if it's simply geared towards selling much more expensive spacers. I would like to buy 3" spacers for my 7.3l. Has anyone had any real experience either positive or negative with them?
