Priority Code

What priority code is everyone requesting for their new 2017 order? My dealer is telling me he will order at 20 but on the build sheet it says 19. I remember reading that some stock orders will be built first to get the bugs out then the sold orders will start production. Most of the sales orders I see on here say 10. I'm wanting to pull the trigger today so any advice would be appreciated!!

Retail sold order codes are 10-19 and stock order priority is 20 and up. You want your dealer to change your order from 19 to 20 or it won't get picked up in the first round of builds.

Rodney,
In reference to you comment, do you know if the first rounds of builds are, for example, a few days of builds, or a few weeks of builds, or longer? I was just curious as mine was put in as a 10 but wasn't sure if I should move it or just leave it. Don't need to be the first...but didn't want to extend "months" after if a 10 would do that. Thanks, Ken

Ken, I wasn't told an exact term for each phase but I do believe it will be extended. My impression from what I was told and have read is that a non stock order will add 1-2 months to a build. Perhaps Frantz will have a more exact answer on this...

BLUF: Priority codes don't mater most of the time.

It's dealer dependent. A 19 at one dealer might get picked up just as fast as a 10 at another. As we can choose to go between 10-19 for customer orders. Our dealerships is only mid sized so we probably only have 5 outstanding orders at any given time, so it really doesn't matter which number I give you as the numbers are only relative to other orders at my own dealership. Now if I had 40 F250 orders and I gave everyone else a 10 and you got an 11, that would suck for you. That's simply not the case at most shops. They may keep their lower numbers open for emergency orders that they need ASAP (which is still the same amount of time from Ford, it just means that it will get picked up before another vehicle of the same kind for that dealership gets picked up).

Frantz, I think what we were going for here is how dealer stock orders are being built before customer sold orders in the beginning of the 2017 build process. Not the standard priority system that is usually in play.

The one challenge with moving your truck order to a normal stock position is the high odds of it getting lost in the mix. Its easy for me to track inbound customer orders because they come in marked special order and we get email updates. Stock orders can also be tracked, but there is probably a higher chance that it's not noticed and someone else could sell it before it's realized that the vehicle arrived. One other consideration is that you can't lock in pricing or rebates if you do a stock order. Obviously not a factor too much on the current orders of '17 SD trucks, but something to keep in mind as many folks reading this may be looking to order later in the year.

Thanks Rodney and Frantz. It's at 10 now so I'll just leave it and watch the sun rise and set a few more months waiting....lol. I'm truckless now as my 11' was totaled in March...so it makes it harder count the days!!

Sorry to hear about the loss! My personal '79 I got from a forum member is just about "farm worthy", but I've been without a pickup since last July when I retired my 95 F150. The Fiesta doesn't quite do the same job and the F550 is a bit too big. I hope you love the new rig!

Thanks Frantz. Yes....the truck was a loss, is being replaced, but what sucked worse was it was a fatality accident for the car that pulled into my path. 16 year old driver without a license...only driving short time I imagine and his 62 year old grandma in passenger seat. He took a left on an unprotected green RIGHT into the path of my truck. 11:30 pm. I couldn't turn, brake or even react. She didn't make it. I can't say the Superduty saved my life...since I was only doing 42 mph at impact...but im sure glad I was in it. The Toyota Avalon I hit wasn't much protection for a direct side impact. I've been driving a long time, with nary a fender bump by someone but this one took me by surprise, and opens your eyes as to how dangerous the road can be just driving along. Man..I wish I could put both my daughters in Superduties to drive when they get there. Oh..and your Fiesta comment was funny...I'm driving my backup 2013 Focus until the truck comes. That car gets "NO RESPECT" by other vehicles. When I drive the SD....people wave you through !!!!

Sorry to hear your accident resulted in a fatality. It was not your fault, but those can be hard to get over sometimes.

That's a tough story Ken and one of the reasons my wife likes taking our SD to work. She works at a hospital in a bigger city and says in our SUV they aim for her. In our truck they get the heck out of the way... Anyways, sorry you had to go through that...

Thanks Rodney...yeah....completely out of my hands. Keep thinking if he was just one second faster trying to beat me I maybe would have spun that car's back end around and it would have resulted better, but just an unfortunate move on the young drivers part. Part of me rests a little easier knowing that at 62, hopefully she had great life full of family and friends and love and that there wasn't another 16 year old sitting in that passenger seat. OK back on track....didn't mean to bring anyone down but these trucks not only look great, but they DO help in an accident...alone or with another vehicle.
