Abnormal starts...Maybe?????
Have had my used 02 F250 SD for about 10 days. It has 90,000 miles on it but well cared for. This is my first Diesel. Have noticed that about 95% of the time, it starts after a few revolutions(what seems to be normal) but some times, it takes 3 times longer to start...enough that I catch myself letting up on the key, thinking it should be running by then. These are warm start conditions so glow plugs should not be a factor. Any ideas on what might be the cause and what needs to be looked at?

Mine does the same thing, sometimes, but only when it is warm. On a cool morning I can just hit the starter and it kinda snarls into life. I like that. Could be the effect of heat on the fuel pressure. Cold my truck will start up at 60 PSI and shut the truck down cold the fuel pressure will drop over about 5 seconds to 0. Hot it will run 50 PSI and shut it down the gage will drop to zero in about 2 seconds. Try this on warm starts, it works on my truck. After the wait to start light goes out count to five then hit the starter. If it works like my truck it will start better. But I don't think that it is a big problem just a starting characteristic
