Hello everyone, I recently picked up a transmission with 75k on it for my 2000 f350. I have never done anything transmission related so I will be paying one of diesel mechanics at work 300 dollars to remove the blown transmission from my truck and installing the new one.
I want to make sure I have everything needed before I tow the truck to his garage. I have the transmission, torque converter, and I ordered a new transmission cooler. I was told to be sure to blow out all the lines with compressed air to make sure all the shavings are out. I know I need to get a Mercon V filter and ATF. However what gaskets/ o rings should I replace? I know I should replace the gasket between the transmission and the transfer case but what else?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Transmission should be self contained so other than the transfer case, I can't think of anything you need to replace. I would suggest installing a magnafine filter on the cooler line coming back into the transmission. Blowing out the lines will only get so much.
It looks like the only transmission filter I can get my hands on for a few days is a duralast one from autozone. Is this a big no no or would a duralast one be okay?
