I need some help with a Ignition Problem
I have worked mainly on GM products and am not real familiar with Ford Trucks. A friend of my son has a problem with his '87 F150 Pickup. Here's the problem. The Starter solenoid mounted on the fender is not getting power to the coil. I can jump the contacts and start the truck. I also used a jumper wire to put power on the coil of the solenoid and it works fine. Is there anything other than the ignition switch in the circuit I need to check ? I can hear the fuel pump start when the ignition is turned on. Any help you guys could provide will be greatly appreciated.

Is there a wire from the starter solenoid to the coil that could be open, grounded, etc. I would check that out or its possible that there is too much resistance in that wire to get thru it and it needs to be replaced.

Wire from ign. switch start terminal (usually red/blue) goes to neutral start switch (on trans), or clutch switch (under dash on clutch rod), and then to solenoid.

nitro my friend, I think you just nailed it. He recently had the Tranny rebuilt and I bet that is where his problem is. It's an Auto and probably has a loose connection on the netural switch. I check it out tomorrow. Thanks, you just saved me several hours of searching and a big pain in the butt.
