My Expedition call for 30lbs in the front and 35lbs in the rear on my 17 inch tires. The tires are rated at 35lbs maximum. These are standard equipment on the eddie bauer. I have personally replaced the stock Goodyears with Michelins.
So, how much air should I put in these tires?
I drive about 50/50 city/highway. No off road to speak of.
My gas mileage is about 11.5-14.5 mpg depending on load, weather, etc
Keep the pressures at factory recommendations. The 1997-2002 Expeditions are very sensitive to tire pressure changes. 35 PSI in the front will make the vehicle extremely twitchy on the highway. I have had Michelin LTX M/S and Cross-Terrains on my 1999 and have had very even wear at the factory-recommended pressures.
P.S. If your Expy is a 1999 or newer 4x4 model without a 2HI position on the transfer case switch, it's a very good idea to effect tire rotation on a regular basis. A significant difference in front vs. rear tire diameter can activate the A4WD system, causing premature tire and driveline wear.
I found that 35 R and 32 F worked best for me with the Michelin LTX M'S in 17" 265 by 70 size. Any higher in front and it's not fun to drive. 30 in front was a little too mushy at high speeds in tight curves. Try it both ways to find what suits your style of driving.
