Idle Set Screw

my 94 ranger idles terribly but runs fine with any gas. i was wondering if i could not just turn that set screw on the linkage so that it always has a little gas? it says something about not to because it is computer controlled. could i unhook the iac and just use that screw to set my idle? seems like it would work to me but i dont know alot about these electronics. thanks

Don't mess with it unless you know what your doing, clean/replace the IAC and look for codes.

so you dont think it would work to manually set the idle speed? also everyone talks about pulling codes? do i need a scanner or something to do this with? thanks
