I have a 2001 F250. The parking brakes are gone. I mean there is no liner left on the shoe.
I would need to replace all the cables and brake hardware, and shoes.
Do they work good enough to justify the expense of replacing all the parts.
Seems like everybody I know that has a Ford, don't use the parking brake anyway.
I would fix it. It is not a hard job, but will take some time. Make sure you check the backing plate closely as they like to rust out causing problems with the parking brake. In some states if you get caught with a non functioning E-brake you will get a ticket. I don't have that problem but having a functional parking brake comes in handy when doing some repairs.
but for me.. on my Dodge (Ram) 2005 .. they rusted up right after 1 year old (2006).. Warranty would not cover the repairs... I drove it for another 9 years that way.. Oh.. the Dodge had a manual transmission.
that is just how Good the 7 year , 70,000 warranty was.
Parking brakes work fine when they are adjusted and in good working order. My 2000 F350 would hold my 14K trailer on a grade with only parking brake on(6spd).
Typically no one uses them and the cables rust solid and make them useless.
