So I just got into a 2010 F-250. I've never owned a diesel truck before so I'm trying to learn more about them. I have a lawn business so I pull a trailer every day. I am wanting to make a few mods to get the most out of my truck without compromising on the life of the engine.
I have a friend that always tells me to do tuners, EGR delete kit, and pipes but when I'm ready to do he just tells me to do the small stuff to make it last longer.
Is it worth bulletproofing the 6.4? Any advise is appreciated! I want to get the most out my truck!
Honesly, I would rather have a 6.0 than a 6.4, then you avoid the whole DPF issues. The 6.0 has its problems but they are all documented and fixable. The 6.4 has issues also but way more money to fix when broke.

Doesn't sound like a friends advice I'd rely on. You pull a landscape trailer and your buddy thinks you need a tuner? More power for pulling? Do you even know that trailers behind you?
Pipes? For performance or just to sound cool?
What does he consider to be "small stuff?" I don't think anything is small when you dig into these engines.
I'd still go with "if it ain't broke" approach. Save your money.
Since you just got the truck run it for awhile and see how it treats you. Beings you pull a trailer everyday and actually work the engine you might not have much trouble with the DPF system. If it turns out to give you a lot of issues then start thinking about deleting stuff.
Thanks for the input. I'm definitely not trying to build a race truck whatsoever. I just want to see if there is a way to get the job done more efficiently. I don't want to smoke everyone out or be the loudest truck on the road. I just want to get better gas mileage so I can keep putting more money in my pocket without compromising the life of my vehicle.
Don't do it for mpg's, that never works. If you do get better mileage it will take a long time to break even, it will probably cost over $1000 for delete and tuner.
