Hey guys. I'm in the process of purchasing a 1995 XLT 4x4 Extended cab with a 302. I'm not new to this forum. I've had my share of Ford trucks, however I've never owned one in this body style.
What's some things to look for before making the final deal?
Also, if I bring it home, how can I free up some horse power?
Thanks fellas. I'm looking forward to coming back to this forum and spend some time with you all.
Rear spring hangers like to rot out. Rotted sheet metal at rear cab corners, core support, and rear wheel arches. Worn TTB front end parts. Then the obvious leaks.
For power, best bang for buck is let the 302 scream with deep gearing. Especially if you go to anything larger than 235/75R15 tires. Long tube headers are a usual recommendation, into a high flow cat, single 3" with muffler of choice. 6.0L tuneup is advised as well (fresh cap, rotor, wires, hotter coil, plugs gapped larger, and a base timing advance as far as you can without ping.
Just a little update fellas. So the 95 didn't happen because I came across this one. As I was saying, I've owned an 85 250 and an 04 150. I'm more excited about this one that I just purchased than any of them. I'm just waiting for it to make its way from the previous owners home in Washington state to my home in Ohio.
What do you think? Was a little more than I wanted to spend, but had to have it.
1991 F150 XL.
Only problem with it is the front tank is inop. I asked p.o if he looked into it and he said he thought it was the switch on the dash. Looks like I'm gonna have to do a little tracking after it gets here.
What are your thoughts?
Thank you gentleman. Like I said, I'm pretty excited about this one.
I'm planning on some subtle changes, but it's in such good shape I'm mostly gonna leave it stock.
Likely a dead pump inside the tank, that is a nice truck though.
Shouldn't be to bad of a job on this truck and I was assuming the worst as well. I was pricing pumps out. Jeez oh man, these pumps ( for a good quality name ) are expensive! A motorcraft on RockAuto is over three hundred. If I'm reading correctly which I hope I'm not, that's just for the pump without the sending unit.
I picked up a '96 Bronco from Washington that was in very good condition. Yours looks to be a like condition. One thing that I have noticed is the amount of frame rust. I was putting in new rear u joints and one of the driveshaft weights that was welded on fell off! Worked that one out and everything is working fine. PM me as I have a few spares from my '91 F150 that I don't need any more.
Enjoy your new ride!!

Damn man! You can see that on the drive shaft?!
I didn't think the surface rust on the frame was bad at all but I did have a plan for that.
I'm going to either Chassis Coat the entire thing, or POR 15 it. Then top coat it with satin black rustoleum because of the fading issue. After I get into it, I will PM you and set something up. Thank you
Thoughts?
Does anybody know what kind of wood the dash has on it?
Was looking at the steering wheels at LMC and I'm not sure if I wanted to go in the wood direction, or black. If I even change it out at all. That's about the only thing I don't like in these interiors. Just figured it was something subtle and tasteful. LMK your opinions on what you guys would do...... If anything.
