Question caps and wheels ?

bonus built fans, i have a 49 f-1 that came with chrome hubcaps with ford in blue. i found a set of silver painted caps with ford in red: both sets go on the wheels with wheel bumps pointing in to center. which type go on an f-1. also, are 16" replacement steel wheels avail or do i have to look for used? one final question. i understand 15" wheels will fit, what do i ask for if i go to a yard: other than what wheels will fit a 49 f-1, i case i get waited on by a youngster. thanks, and happy flat heading. dick reed

The 48-52 F-1's had the stainless or chrome hubcaps with the blue lettering. The silver w/ red paint are actually for 53-56 F-100's. As far as the 16" wheels, you need to find some rims off a pre- 66 F-1 or F-100's. The car rims will fit, but you can't use the correct hubcaps on the car rims. The rim size is 16x4.5 inches. You might be able to use rims off a pre 48 car also, but I'm not 100% sure. The later F-100's used a 16x5 inch rim also. My parts book show that some 55 and later F-100's had a 15x5 inch rim also. There are some aftermarket suppliers that are making replacement rims in those sizes, but I imagine they're expensive.

Car rims won't fit. We had several rims from the 40's and a '57 Thunderbird rim. They all have 4 1/2 bolt circle.

Sorry to revive such an old thread but figured it better than making a new one! ?

My question is; are the 48-56 stock hubcaps the same (that's what Dennis Carpenter parts shows) is it just the difference of the color of the paint on the "ford" that makes it specific to the year?? or Bonus builts vs the 53-56 trucks?

also If I read the above correctly I could also put them on a 15" wheel if I decided not to use my 16" wheels?
has anyone used the dennis carpenter hub caps and or beauty rings? are they good quality? I am missing 1 or 2 rings plus will need the hubcaps for the stock look.
Thanks

Josh

btw I have a 51 f1

nice to see the old thread back. just shows you tried the search function. i'll leave it to the pros to tell you about the wheels. the 48-52 hub cabs are chrome or stainless with blue lettering. the 53-56 (mine, atleast) are painted silver with red lettering. they both appear to fit the same style wheel: bumps toward the center. dick r

Yes, the 48-56 hubcaps a re the same except for the color of the letters. The repro caps come unpainted so you can paint the letters any color you want. They will fit 15 inch wheels if you find the right ones...

It was my understanding that the Bonusbuilt truck hubcaps were stainless with black lettering while the 46-48 hubcaps (same hubcaps) were stainless steel with blue lettering. Early Ford V8 Club of America judging standards would be a good source. All that said my lettering will be blue on my 49.
