Hard shift from park

2011, 69,000 miles. My truck is experiencing very hard shifts from park to drive or park to reverse after a cold soak. It goes away once warmed up. I can't find any excessive driveline play and my transmission fluid level appears fine and in good condition. Any ideas?

The last repair done on my truck was around 7,000 miles ago and it was for a transmission fluid leak around the bell housing. They just replaced the seal between the torque converter and transmission.

Have you had the truck since new? My 13 always does this as does my buddies 11. To stop it I put the truck in neutral, set park brake, release brakes, move shifter to park. Comes out easy every time. It seems that even if you are on flat ground these things come out of park hard unless you let the park brake take the weight.

Yes, I have had it since new and it just started this. It went into drive so hard this morning that it lurched the truck forward.

Check to see at your dealer if the solonoids were done. Also if you have the latest flash. .
The 2011 had those issues. ..or you may have torque converter issue.

I'm with capt caper - sounds like solenoids could be an issue.

It is a tough shift if you are on grade when you put it into park with the parking brake. But it's more rough sounding than rough acting.

Are the solonoids difficult to replace?

No. I've seen pictures that show the solenoids. Looks like you drain the trans fluid, pull the bottom cover off, and the solenoids are right there on the bottom of the transmission. There are probably 7 of them and I don't know anything more than that.

Not really..but you still have to have it reflashed from what I read. I thought I read some were on this forum or another how to do it.

I'm almost surprised you don't need IDS to change a bulb in the truck. It seems like for everything else that you used to just swap out needs to be programmed.

Is it like the old tower computers where any component had to be "registered" or programmed with an "address" to the mother board?

So, the truck is its own closed Internet, where every component has an address so that the main computer can "handshake" all the components?

That sounds like a good analogy... Although at least I could build my own tower myself and I didn't need another very expensive computer as the tool to do it. The newer cars that network isn't as closed as we like to think it is.
