It might sound stupid, but I want to replace the small hose that goes from the radiator to the reservoir. It's a little cracked.
I noticed that the hose is crimped tightly to the reservoir and I might damage it if a pull it too hard. Can I just remove he "clamp" and then clamp on a new one? Would this mess anything up?
The clamp should be able to be removed with a pliers. Squeeze it and slide it back down the hose. If the hose is stuck, take a razor and slice it. It will fall off easier that way. Replace the hose and clips.
Thanks, but the clamp is not a "normal" clamp. It's more like a peice of metal that's wrapped/squeezed around the plastic resevoir tube tightening the hose inside of it.
There's no way to "remove" it unless I just cut the hose and add another clamp on top of the existing one. What i'm worried about is if it's not a tight fit... will it leak or cause a problem? (I'm not mechanically enclined).
AH, one of those type. I was thinking it had the tabs on it for pliers to squeeze. I would just pull it off. It is not under pressure of any kind. If you damage the clamp a regular style clamp can be used to hold it on.
This is just water going from overflow to radiator, no pressure. The clamp is there just to make sure it does not work loose.
You want to make sure that your new clamp is tight enough so when the engine cools the rad. will suck coolent out of the reservoir instead of air from the loose hose fitting.
