Why is the Explorer more powerful??
When I picked up my new truck the other day, the brochure rates my engine at 207 HP @ 5250 RPM. And 238 lb./ft. torque @ 3250 RPM. Looking at a brochure for the Explorer, I noticed that the SOHC 4.0L in it is rated at 210 HP @ 5200 RPM and about 250 lb./ft. or so of torque at 3000 RPM.
What makes the 4.0L stronger in the Explorer?

Actually, The 4.0l SOHC has a totaly diff. Intake. It produces a much higher air flow - due to it's tubing (causing a vortex). Combined with more valves per cylinder, and it is balace via the Chain/Jackshaft (offseting torque within' the engine... ie no loss of hp to torque.) Very nice but, overly enginered (complicated) maximization of all 4.0 liters. NOW FOR GOD SAKE.... MAKE AFTERMARKET PARTS!!!! I want 300hp.

the reeason you have a extra 3 HP is due to the program in the computer, it was don't to give it the torgue cuvre where they wanted it. but it is only 3 hp.
4.0sohcblaablaaa- it still only has 2 valves per cylinder. and the votrex thing is way off

have you also noticed that the Explorer V-8 has higher HP than the F-150. 239 compared to 231, but it also has less torque 282 to 293. Would that be programming as well.
