I run Rotella T6 5w40 with Archoil 9100. I use the truck very little as it is not my everyday driver. I bought it for towing the family RV.
I just changed the oil today. The last oil change was May 2015. I put 4,164 miles on the truck between changes.
All the intervals I see are based on mileage or 3 months time. I believe this is carry over from the days of older dino oils. I have done some reading and synthetic should be fine for 1 year or more but I read that on the internet, LOL.
So what are your thoughts?
With that low mileage on the oil do you think the il should be changed every 3 months, 6 months or anually is fine as long as you are within the mileage interval?
I am sending off a sample to Blackstone for an analysis.
My book says 6 months or 5,000 miles for severe duty. The 6 months is because of acids etc. that form in the oil. If your doing app. 5,000 miles a year using synthetic that would not bother me providing those 5,000 miles aren't 10 miles at a time going to the store. The engine needs to get fully up to temp in order to get rid of the condensation formed when just warming up.
The only engines I do time based OCs are ones that only have an hour meter.
That is my practice -- you asked for opinions and mine is I think the add packs of modern oils make time a pretty old fashioned determination of when to change oil.
I'll be interested if you start doing UOAs at increasing time intervals what you personally find...

Just going by the book Dan. On another note, the book for my 2015 says to go by the trucks mileage minder or one year intervals which ever comes 1st.
If you go by UOA's eventually the cost of the UOA's could exceed the cost of just changing the oil.
The best procedure is to do whatever your comfy with. Only you know how you really drive your truck.

Sorry Mike -- your post slipped in just before mine, so it sounded like I was responding to you...
I should have qualified my post with a: "if under warranty" caveat, because I do what the manufacturer requires when under warranty...
