Universal crossbars vs factory specific

Hey guys, it's been a long time since I posted anything here, feel free to skip this part and get to the meet of the question in the next paragraph. I used to own a 99 F150 (which I loved and one of my biggest regrets was trading that in years ago) and then had a 2008 Escape but recently adopted a baby and the wife needed something a bit more reliable (I had over 120,000 miles on it and it was starting to need some maintenance and had always had a transmission that slipped a bit and shifted funny). We wanted to get an explorer because we needed something bigger but they are super pricey. Sadly we went with new Hyundai Santa Fe with a 3rd row seat because we got a really good deal. I hated leaving the Ford family but sadly it made the most financial sense (my wife promised me though my next vehicle can be a 2017 F150 Raptor, so as soon as I can find somewhere to sell a kidney I'll be set...)

Anyways, apologies for the non ford vehicle question but this has always been the forum with the best information so I thought I'd post here anyway. The Santa Fe did not come with cross bars for the roof rails and Hyundai wants over 300 bucks for just the cross bars. I need to get a cargo box because we travel sometimes with our chocolate lab and there just isn't room for her, the baby and all our luggage. I thought about just getting some universal cross bars so I could mount the cargo box (thinking of a Thule Sport Rack unless you guys have better suggestions), my only hesitation is the Santa Fe has a full roof sun roof. You think the universal rails would be secure enough or should I bite the bullet and just do the factory cross bars. I'm worried about something coming loose and possibly breaking the sun roof.

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: after doing some more research it looks like there are 2 different types of crossbars for the Sante Fe, 1 is for the ones without a sunroof and is significantly cheaper and the other is for the one with the sun roof and is over twice the cost. It appears the the non sunroof ones will actually work with the sunroof vehicles. The ones for the sunroof vehicles are taller to allow more clearance but other Santa Fe owners report they use the non sunroof crossbars with no issues are are even able to open the sunroof when they have cargo mounted. So that answers that question but if anyone has any recommendations on a good waterproof cargo box that won't break the bank I'd love to hear it.
