is a 67 camper special 2 wheel drive frame any wider or skinnyer than a 71 4 wheel frame I want to put the 71 front axle on the 67 frame to make it a 4 wheel any sugestions will help thanks
Just make sure you have the donor truck so you can grab everything including the steering box, frame members, and driveshafts. The steering components are pricey, so make sure you snag them.
why would it be so hard to unbolt the shackle mounts and roll it under the 2 wheel drive frame do you have to do some sort of cutting or something to do that I figured that it would roll right under it and I could put the transfercase and drive lines in and the steering box and I should be good to go I have the longer steering shaft for the 4 wheel drive so that will not be a problem.
I just don't know if I can get enough people together at one time to do all the lifting of the body parts to get all of that done. So I figured that would be a lot easier.
I see now that it would be a little more difficult to do that I have the 4 wheel cross member so that would not be a problem but if the frame is not set up for the shackle mounts that would be a little more difficult I just thought I might see what it would take to get it done so I see you have 67 2 wheel yourself you don't by any chance want a frame and running gear for a 67 camper special 2 wheel you can have it all but the engine.
It is free just come and get it!! it is an F-250 frame.
I hear you on the newlywed thing I am as well only been married 2 months and my fishing habits are not going over too well anyway I am way out west on whidbey island washington and the salmon fishing was great today.
Too bad you couldn't get another truck for parts that rearend in that 2 wheel I think is a dana 60 if i'm not mistaken we will have to see if anyone else wants it.
well the 71 frame that I have is a 250 with the same rearend on it so I will part with it for nothing but if you are in nebraska that is a long drive all the way over here by seattle but if he wants it tell him to come and get it.
Hey Mr Huge, if you get over to Freeland stop at the recycling place and see if they still have that 71. I saw it there a couple months ago on my way through and it was in line to get crushed but the crusher guy said he was going to spare it. It had a real straight grille surround if I remember right. I pulled in there another time with an old 60s T-bucket on my trailer and the guy just about gave me anything I wanted. They get some cool stuff there and save anything that looks like it might sell. They have a dump truck box full of hubcaps and I can always find a few full sets of old Ford ones. I got all the ones for my F-250 there.
So willowbilly3 did you want me to pick up the grill for you if they still have it there or is that a heads up for me but good info I will have to go down there and see if they have some good doors for my 67 I don't need any 71 body parts I am putting the 67 body on the 71 frame so where are you out of anyway.
Well I'm in east Texas right now. I don't actually need the grille but those are plenty hard to find in straight condition. I would sure take it if it is available. I have a good friend on down that road out of Freeland at the 4 way and then turn hard right about time you can see Camano island.
Either way it would be good trading stock and you may find other parts on the truck you could use. It was a pretty straight and complete truck. Also if you get over toward Pt. Townsend there is a junkyard netween P.T. and Pt. Hadlock called Mac's. He had a few 67-72 pickups the last time I was in there a couple years ago. I am not sure if he actually had any 67s though. I found a perfect blue dashpad in there and he wanted $20 for it but I didn't have time to take it out and didn't get back to get it. I asked him in May if it was still there. No luck. I didn't go in and look.
My friend out there drives a 67 f-100. It is just an old pickup to him and he seldom takes it anywhere. I can't remember how good his doors are but he may eventually replace the pickup. He does have a late 70s GMC van with a light rod knock after it is warmed up that he would sell cheap or maybe free. He had just put a new radiator and tires on it.
willowbilly3 hey I have a straight one sitting in my garage for a 71 if you want it I just happened to save it off of the 71 I cut up I have a few things off of that truck left like doors, mirrors, all of the controls, radio, heater core, heater controls, seatbelts, just about everything in the cabe that was still working and in good condition I took. so if you need something shoot me an email at coatneyd@naswi.navy.mil
