Angry Propane guzzling beast!

My dad has a 1996 Ford (duh!) F-150 4.9 L I-6 2 WD. It runs on propane. His gas gauge does work. The truck only gets like 325 kms on a tank of propane (which costs about $40). It holds about 80 litres. He figured it out and he gets approx. 10-11 mpg. For propane I believe this is quite low. What do you guys think? Also I can smell propane when I get close to the truck. Should it be like that? He doesn't burn it up around corners so its not a heavy foot. Also he has a tonneau cover so its not wind resistance from the tailgate. Thanks guys!

Hhmmm... If you can smell propane you obviously got a leak! Keep flames away. Try checking all the connections with soapy water. The leak should blow bubbles. Use a flashlight in dark or slightly dark areas because you will not see the bubbles.

Smile Propane guzzling beast!

I have an '87 f150 5.8lt (351) on full propane (no gas option) and I get ~14 mpg .... you should NOT smell propane when engine is running .... this is not good....... something is wrong..... They sell and aftermarket computer chip which allows the computer to properly tune (adjust) for propane when you h switch from gas to propane .... I dont know where or how much it cost ... but my buddy has a f250 4x4 with a 460 and he has the extra chip added for better performance/fuel economy ... hope this helps
