Ford 9" disc conversion rotors...
One person told me to get a CJ rotor, so I went to NAPA with the 9" shaft. Needless to say, the guy didn't tell me that I'd have to machine the shaft mounting plate down about 1/4" to fit the CJ and F150 front rotors.
Another guy tells me that a 81' trans-am rear rotor will work. I was somewhat skeptical that it would even have discs in the rear on that year. Well, the guys at NAPA looked and found no rear disc for an 81' or any year trans-am.
So, I decided to try having NAPA ship in a 79' Lincoln. It had the 9" with disc brakes, but it was a 28 spline shaft. Will the rotor for that be the right size without having to machine the mounting plate of the shaft down?
Does anyone know if there is an automobile company that manufactured a rotor that will fit the 31 spline shaft mounting plate of a 9" without having to drill or machine? Did GM, Ford, AMC, Chrysler or anyone make something?
I want something that I don't have to special order from a disc brake conversion kit. I don't want to have to call TSM and buy their rotor for some $200.
Have you read thru the disk conversion tech articles here and performed a search?
I know the so-called "rules" with message boards, "if you haven't searched first, don't ask" and "if you don't find it in the first search, search again before you ask the question." I'm over at Pirates Of the Rubicon constantly looking for ideas, they're ruthless over there. They most deal with Jeeps and Cruisers though. I thought since this site was dedicated to FORD, that I'd find something, but I didn't, so I asked.
I don't post unless I can't find it on a message board or in a search engine. Being flammed once at POR teaches you pretty quickly.
