First post here we go, I have an 06 e450 that died the other day and would start run 1 sec then die. Codes were P0336 0341 2614 2617 cmp and ckp so first I tried a known good cam sensor no change then tried to steal the crank sensor and broke it off in the block. 1 day later installed new crank sensor and fired right up. drove into shop and put new cam sensor in, ran 2 hours great. next am drove 1 mile and got what seemed like a misfire, back in shop found I would loose cam and crank sync when it happened. went to ohm them at pcm and while looking, found grey wire to ckp sensor rubbed by L eng lift bracket. Thought I won, fixed that and a wire to egr valve started great till today in shop. Now starts good rev to 2000 I loose sync again, started thinkin PCM so tried on from an 08 ( the one with the broke crank sensor still) now wont crank. Im thinking that the wire rub took out the crank sensor and possibly harmed the PCM anybody ever see this with wire rubs? Thanks
Fixed! Took a day or so to borrow another PCM, still same problem, I would loose cam and crank sync at 2000 rpm. Decided to blow the dust off my fluke 97 and rigged up some cat5 cable at the PCM and watch crank sensor on scope. started eng and brought up to 2 grand and signal got screwy, took a long screwdriver and tried to wiggle wires at PCM and I could hold the grey wire twards puter and miss went away. Pulled center PCM connector back off took the red plastic in center out then took a pick and pushed center of pins to tighten them up. problem gone. just a loose pin at PCM for crank sensor.
Ya that was fun, remember its a van so PCM not easy to get to hence the cat5 cable at PCM. Old girl has 388k on her and lots left so had to fix this gremlin. I've read a lot on this forum over the years and thought maybe this could help someone else out.
Did the engine sound like it was missing or stuttering at 2000-2300?
Mine does this cold and I have the p0336 code.
When it warms up the engine runs fine. Mine is a 03 F250 with 6.0
