302 engine compatibility
Hey there HippieCustoms! That's what I tried to argue with the guy that was explaining it to me.... Thanks for reinforcing my thoughts about moving the rod, when the piston was turned! HEE HEE, now I can go and make a copy of this entire thread and shove it down his throat!!!!
Anyways, I do agree that there is no substitution for doing things right the first time. It seemed as though tulsaokjoel, didn't or doesn't have the cash to do it right and I was told of the alternative, above.. and thought he may want to try it. I've seen it done, but have never tried it myself.
I'm just hoping that I will always maintain my equipment properly and can avoid most of the troubles listed in the Forum.
I hope you realize, HippieCustoms, that I'm just busting your chops! I can tell by your rigs, that you also take great care of them! As soon as I can get me a decent digital camera, I'll post some pics.... Talk with you later.
P.S. Have you got any HOG pics to post?

Got get a 302 out a crown-vic. We did this in a truck a friend of my dad had, as far as I know it's still goin strong. Make sure it's around the same year. You will have to use the truck intake, exaust, oil pump and oil pan though.

Hey Guys! Just a small note to HippieCustoms....
You don't want to see the look on "The Master Mechanics" face when I took this to him! HEE HEE! I think I confused him more than before! I'm glad he's not my mech! Thanks for the info. I DO appreciate it.
Hey tulsaokjoel! Where are you! You haven't replied in awhile! We don't know how you are making out... Let us know..Thanks...

302 engine compatibility
Well guys. I haven't been able to get this site working for the last week, but here I am finally. I pulled the head and found that the rings were broken on the #3 cylinder. (I previously said #7, but have since learned the proper layout of the cylinders). The cylinder did have some scoring, however I decided to just hone the cylinder and replace the piston and rings. I know this wasn't the best choice, but due to lack of time, and a place to pull the motor this was my choice. I have it back together now and it has 150 PSI compression. I think it will last long enough for me to locate a good replacement engine, and a friend to help me switch them. The engine isn't running good though. I think I may have mixed up the fuel injector connections for cylinders 5, 6, and 7. I didn't mark these like I should have. It is easy to tell where the other five plug in, but I possibly mixed those three up. Does anyone have any suggestions on diagnosing these?

Shouldn't make any difference. The injectors aren't timed to the cylinders. Really only 2 signals working all 8 injectors on your truck. you can go to a parts store (call first and ask if they pull codes) and they will scan the computer for free then the printout will tell you what to look for. Good luck

87s are Speed Density EFI with "bank firing" injection. The computer uses 2 signals to fire 2 injectors each on each side. It is different than SEFI used on Mass Air systems and HO engines.

Hey there tulsaokjoel! Great job! You just may want to re-check the timing, since you had to turn the crank to get to the rod bolts. I hope that everything else can go smooth for you.
I know what you mean about getting back one-line! With the black-out, it hasn't been easy lately. Now, this stupid worm shows up! I can't stand these hackers! They must be employed by the computer companies! I can't afford to have my equipment repaired on all my vehicles, let alone on my computer.
Oh well... Talk with you later....

I can't remember for sure but I think that injectors 5-4-2-6 are grouped together as one "batch" and 3-7-8-1 are the other "batch." I'm going by what I remember from the wiring diagram, so it may not be accurate, but I'm pretty sure that's right (2 injectors each side of the engine in each group).

Well, I noticed where one of my intake bolts was loose, so I pulled the upper intake. I re-torqued all the intake bolts and re-torqued the head bolts. It was pretty late when I did this the first time and I just didn't do it right. Anyway, it now runs pretty good. It idles at around 1100 instead of 700 like before. Still has some slight hesitation at times, but I probably need to reset the timing. Thanks for all the help guys.
