I have been at working on my vehicles since I was a kid back years ago. How do most of you clean the dirt & grease off todays engines? Years ago I used to use the car wash spayer or steam cleaner. They don't work to good today because of all the electrical connections & any moisture causes big problems. Years ago you only had to dry out the distributor and you were ready to go. Not today wwith all the connections. After cleaning with steam or washer spray I have lost a few ignition modules etc/ any ideas beside a brush & spray solvent cleaner?
after a good day of wheelin i just spray my engine down with the hose CAREFULLY makein sure not to get water into the vitals. and if that doesnt work just put a plastic bag over every thing you dont want water on/in and have at it.
I understand your concern with the high-pressure washers.
A favorite of a few of my friends is the regular Simple Green cleaner. Put it, or buy it, in a spray bottle and apply it. Let it sit for a few minutes (you might want to scrub any oily/grimy build-up) then spray it off with a garden hose.
Car detailing places and used-car lots use specific industrial engine-bay cleaners that work very well, but I don't know the name of any of the products. I would also not hesitate to go over to a Pep Boys, or other large automotive, store to look to see what spray-on, hose-off engine cleaners they have.
