Computer Reboot
I started my 99 F250, and began what I thought was a normal drive... but the shifting was odd... not shifting until I let off the gas, then it would shift very hard. It continued like this for a mile or so, then I noticed that the speedometer wasn't working... so I figured the onboard computer crashed. So, I turned the engine off, restarted, and all was normal... is this common???

Not real common. Hopefully, it was just an anomoly and not an indication of something more serious. If it happens again, the first thing to check is the speed sensor located in the rear differential. It controls the speedo and affects the shifts of the tranny.

I currently have "pinging" happening, and even went up to 89 octane fuel... do I get a "tune-up" or try a superchip? The price of 87 octane in CA is $2.30 - ouch! Did you feel any performance increase? I have also read where you can adjust the computer to the size of tires you have for a more accurate speedo - right?
