Flooring Options?

Hi all,

I have a '79 F150 Regular Cab that is pretty much finished up, just gotta get trim put back on it and take care of some stuff in the cab.

What I am wondering is if anyone has any experience with lining the floor boards with an undercoating or truck bed coating or something similar? I am looking for a DIY, black coating that is tough and will keep rust from occurring. I would like it to have some sound dampening qualities as well. I am looking at doing the entire floor of the cab, plus maybe 8 to 10 inches up the the sides.

If this has been covered I apologize, I'm on a fairly short time line though, the wedding is in 3 weeks.

Also, if anyone knows where to get running boards or wide flat nerf bars for the same pickup that will bolt up that would be great.

Thanks,

Baatzy

You could try the Rustoleum professional undercoating or truck bed. They're around 6-7 dollars for a spray bottle. I used the undercoating for my wheel wells and the truck bed well.. for my truck bed. And it's been great.

Just stay away from the cheaper stuff. Put 2 or 3 coats on. And let it dry for at least a week. And you'll get good results. Hope this helps.

Herculiner, Lizard skin, UPol Raptor, Rustoleum, Monstaliner, Dura liner, Al's liner....there are a bunch of them. Gator guard, Duplicolor bed armor....

I got the 1 gal Herculiner DIY kit from the local auto parts chain store for my red truck, but I am not at the point to use it. Plan doing all the cab floor, 1/2 up the cab back, both kick panels. Lower 1/2 of doors (bottom of door panel and down and under). Rockers and bottom 1/2 of the A and B pillar.

I have read and reread about DIY kits, Herculiner came out on top for price and durability. No matter what you use, what really matters if the surface preparation.

Truck done or not, the wedding is going to happen, so roll with it. My mud truck still had PO installed house paint, my open header to stacks set up and no bed, we drove off anyway.

Well, the truck should be good enough to take to the wedding either way, but I'd like to have the floor done for piece of mind, but I might be hopeful, gotta get the crops in too, and I don't get to be free until a week from Sunday....

At the very worst we'll drive away in my 7.3, or one of her dad's tractors if they are done hauling by then.

The stuff will need some curing time and ventilation, so plan ahead for that. Sounds like you are going to be busy busy.

Pretty busy, yeah, haha. I graduate college on the 7th, and the wedding is on the 21st, start date is currently looking like June 6th for my new career. In between graduation and the wedding I have to get moved about 550 miles to a place close to my new job location, get the crops in, and finish up some pre-marriage counseling or whatever you wish to call it.

The more I look at it, the more it looks like this will be a post honeymoon job, since we will be taking my 7.3 for the honeymoon.

All in all it sounds like the herculiner may be the way to go, for me anyhow. I have a small spot of rust on the passenger floor board to eliminate and then protect from the AC leaking in, but otherwise I just want to cover the floor with something easier to maintain than the old vinyl carpet thing.

Thanks Rich,

Baatzy
