The Dreaded CHIP.....
What can you guys tell me about engine mods. Is it worth a K & N Filter? How much does a chip cost and what will it do for me? I'm buying a boat and have a 2000 Expedition Sport, 40000 miles with a 4.5. I don't want issues towing but also don't want to do things that will trash my mileage anymore. Any ideas? I LOVE MY EXPEDITION!!!!! Traded in a 4Runner for it.

With a question like the K&N, try the search button. The K&N theory has been discussed many times, and you won't have any trouble finding the info you are looking for. Now, you say you have a 2000 Expedition Sport? In a 4.5?

The Dreaded CHIP.....
A chip does work and costs about two bills from the online store or three bills if you go a Superchips Microtuner (also in the store).
The downside is you have to use premium fuel for the performance gains but you tend to pick up enough mileage to make up the difference is fuel costs.

The Dreaded CHIP.....
I put a K&N in my Expy as the very first mod several years ago...what a waste of money. Six or eight months ago I chipped with the 1715 tuner.....excellent mod worth every cent and who cares about an extra $3.00 a week in gas, I spend more than that on breakfast every morning heading to work.

What did the chip actually do for you? Increased power obviously but did you get better mileage? I've got a 100000 mile extended warranty, will it void any part?
