2016 Superduty puddle lamps
#91
I just installed puddle / courtesy lights above the steps on my 2016 F-350. I used 4ea low profile 1" X 4" white LED utility light strips under each door. I had the factory connectors to connect to with the aftermarket pigtails and concealed all of the wiring. Very happy with the end result.

I just had to replace one of my lights on each side.
The driver side front and passenger side rear both had the same issue; the + wire was poorly soldered to the led board and it broke. These two lights in particular had some flicker to them and I wonder if the connection was failing from the factory.
I ordered the same ones again and check this time before installing them; I also used silicone to secure the wires outside the housing, and reduce movement that may break the wires off again.

I like the lights and am otherwise happy with their performance.
It is possible that during washing the mitt snagged the wires, so I plan to be more careful when washing under the doors in the future.

Excellent Install !!
I bought similar lights for my truck back when this thread started. Thankfully, like most things I've bought for the truck, I haven't installed them yet.
I like your choice in lights much better, so I followed your link and just ordered them.
Thanks !! Of course, just like everything else I see and want they're now $21.00 and not $14.?? whats a guy to due .. lol

I did the same thing as Captfx4; used the same lights an all.
I soldered extra wire to the connector and ran it to the areas where the lights go beneath the middle of each door more or less.
I also put high-temp silicone around where the light wire comes out of the lights to provide a little extra support.

One other thought - kind of back to the original question here. If the mirrors have a cutout for a "puddle light" in the bottom of them, you could possibly order two of the factory puddle light LEDs for a 2017 Super Duty and install them. The install would be more difficult for sure, but the factory puddle lights include 2 LEDs per mirror...one shines straight down and one shines backward. The entire running board is lit, plus an area on the ground. Looks very nice. I would personally prefer that as a more "factory" approach but it would definitely cost more and be a more difficult install.
Looks good what you guys have done, though! Great use of the factory lit running board plugs.

Finished up my puddle light install a month ago. I want to install bed lights. I've seen people wire them to the same harness for the puddle lights. I don't really wanna do that. Is there any other places you can steal power from? or do you guys recommend running it straight from the battery? I'd like to put a switch on it.
