Hey guys I was just wondering what the differences were between the 88 and 95 460s. I'm looking at replacing the motor in my 95 and found an 88 efi with 95K miles. What are some problems I might run into?
Cylinder heads and pistons. The 88 has smaller valves and runs less dish in the piston but a lower pin height. Effective compression is the same but the later engines have more dwell time at tdc.
I knew the heads would be different. I was going to swap my freshly rebuilt heads on it anyways. I didn't know about the pistons though. That would mean my larger valves wouldn't clear the reliefs in the piston?
This is the stuff I needed to know. I will probably just pull my motor and rebuild it then. Unless I come across a low mileage '93+ motor. It'll probably cost about the same anyway depending on how much machine work costs but even if it ends up being a little more I'll know the motor is fresh.
