Hello! First post lol. I have a 2006 f350 super duty xlt. We bought at an auction in las Vegas. So it came 2wd. But we recently bought a 4wd axle from a gentleman in canada and threw that baby in. Looks way better! Unless your smart enough to notice the missing transfer case which we haven't found yet but will! Well my husband thinks he needs a ford truck in every decade. Leaving him with a 1976 ford quad cab short bed on 38s. Then a 95 f250 4wd ext cab with a 7.3 manual with over 300k on it that he's had for 14 years. And he recently got a 91 f250 lariat (because he needed a work truck-_-) so when it was my turn to choose I got my 06 I love him. I call him my white knight. He's got about 155k. After market oil cooler and EGR delete. Straight piped and dash gauge upgrade. Since its my turn to make my truck my own thing id like to hear more opinions on what else I should do and things and experiences people have had with changes to there 6.0. I'm not letting m. Husband do anything I'm trying to do it all on my own and be accurate with my modifications. Women get to have some fun to! so anything is appreciated! attached is my before 2wd and stock wheels. And an after photo
Well you certainly came to the right place. There are a lot of options as far as tuners are concerned. Do you know if the engine is studded or still has the factory head bolts? That will make some difference as far as how hard you can push it.
There are a ton of options for all the other stuff. I'm sure others will chime in. You can tell a lot about some folks 6.0 just from what is their sig.
Having the delete is a plus. There are some that have had the Atlas 40 tune installed in the FICM, Ed at ficmrepair.com is the man for that. I think you will find that on the later builds like yours there are some in both camps, some saw gains some not so much, but I think they all agree the throttle tip in was better. I noticed some real good gains but then I had a crappy software version at the time so that helped getting rid of that.
Most guys here will tell you don't get too radical with the factory bolts, but don't be scared to drive it good and work it.
Many folks here will tell you run a 5W40 synthetic oil if not already. Shell Rotella or Delo seem to the the favorites.
I would do the blue spring upgrade to the upper fuel bowl. It's a cheap and pretty easy mod, and will ensure you are getting proper fuel pressure.
Quite a few folks have the 200* Mishimot thermostat.......again there are two camps of thinking on that mod but it's pretty straightforward.
There are a ton of threads on all these mods.
That is a good clean and straight 06.........you have some room to play with exterior goodies with that truck! Have fun with it, and read up here. I have learned a ton just reading posts about things. Lot of deep knowledge here with some senior/master techs and ordinary Joe's that just know a lot about the 6.0.
Get something like a Scangauage or something else to monitor data live, it's probably the first and best investment a 6.0 owner will make.
One more rule of thumb, drive it like you stole it once a week Your turbo will thank you, you didn't buy a grocery getter!
Nice looking truck! All the white with the limo tint on the Windows looks good. Like you I am partial to the 4wd look on these trucks also. I'm not sure what kind of changes you have in mind but on the appearance side, I think my favorite change was the 2008 and up mirrors. They look pretty good from the outside but are super nice from the driver seat. Quick and easy install and come with Crome and paintable covers. On your truck they would look cool white. Along with that line of thinking maybe you could get the door handles painted white also. Clean You might like the looks of the 2008+ tailgate, it's a little different shape, has a couple of body lines that meet the tail lights and has SUPERDUTY embossed in big letters across the bottom. Pretty sharp.
Maybe a good general plan would be to stay white on almost everything and add just a touch of color (red, blue, green, whatever you like. Maybe even silver?) with just a very few carefully chosen accessories.
On the mechanical side, service everything you haven't done yet. Engine oil, trans diffs, fuel, brakes, power steering and especially coolant system. In addition to what navistarnut posted above, skip the urge to replace the factory air intake system with a cold air intake kit. It ain't fancy looking but the factory set up filters and flows air very well. Aftermarket CAI's flow ok but don't filter very well. Check those rubber CAC boots, they can split and cost power and mileage. The most recent mod around here seems to be an upgraded alternator. The factory 110amp (if that's what you have) is marginal for a dual battery set-up. The factory headlights aren't great if you drive at night much. There's lots of options for bulbs and accessories to fix that issue.
Just some random ideas, welcome to FTE and enjoy the truck!
Here is a great link Rusty put together for code readers/scanner options for the 6.0L. These are so important to have in my opinion, not only will it help diagnose problems if/when they occure, they can help catch a problem before it gets worse and save you tons of $.....
